Resolutions

What is a resolution?  It’s a formal statement of opinion, or a decision to take an action, made by a municipal body.  Resolutions can provide clarity for goals.  They provide direction and allow a governmental body to plan the course for the future.

Contrasted with an ordinance, which prescribes permanent rules of conduct or governance, a resolution deals with matters of a special or temporary nature.

It’s an official expression of the opinion or will of a municipal body.

Resolutions begin with “Whereas” statements, which provide the basic facts and reasons for the resolution and conclude with “Resolved” statements which identify the specific proposal for the course of action.
