Transfer Station
Transfer Station
The Town Transfer Station is located at 1850 Rangeline Road. It is available to all Town of Washington residents and is accessible only by permit. Town-issued permits must be shown to the attendant upon entering the facility.
As of January 1, 2026, all short-term rental properties must provide garbage pick-up services for the addresses licensed as short-term rentals. All properties identified as short-term rentals and in receipt of a Town of Washington Short Term Rental License will no longer receive a transfer station permit with their property tax bill.
Those without a permit will be turned away and not allowed to dump their trash. Please have your CURRENT permit visible for the attendant.
Transfer Station permits now feature a metallic sticker. Removing or altering the sticker voids the permit.
Please note the following procedures at the transfer station:
-
2 vehicles are allowed in both the drive-through and side entrance
-
Backing up is prohibited for safety reasons
-
You may not walk your garbage or recyclables in
-
Please be mindful of those waiting in line. Empty your garbage quickly and limit conversation.
The Town has 2 large compactors – one for garbage and one for recyclables. All recyclables can be put in the recycling compactor. You will only need to separate large scrap metal items from your recyclables. Place large metal items and scrap metal in the metal dumpster outside the building. All garbage must be placed in the garbage compactor.
Cardboard larger than 2’X2′ is not accepted as it causes the compactor to jam. Please ensure cardboard boxes are flattened.
We participate in the NexTrex Community Challenge recycling program. Please deposit all plastic bags and plastic sheeting in the NexTrex containers.
