Brush Site

The Brush Site is located across the street from the Transfer Station

near the Smokey Bear Sign.

It’s the cornerstone of the Town Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) and is highly used by our town residents.  Usage increases every year, and presently there are approximately 350 visits per month.

A contractor is hired to chip the brush and remove the chips in the fall of each year.  A small pile of chips is left for residents to take if they like.

The brush site also has 3 compost bins made of concrete barriers for the collection of leaves and needles. One bin is for collecting new leaves and needles, one is to hold leaves and needles that are composting, and one is to hold the compost which property owners are free to take.

There is adequate signage at the brush site indicating where each area is, including a list of items allowed and not allowed.

Each year we experience some degree of disregard for the regulations.  The Vilas County Sheriff’s Department has been most helpful in assisting with controlling this abuse.

The costs associated with the Brush Site have been fully funded by the CWPP and the USFS Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG). There has been no cost to the town.  We are grateful for our partnership with the WDNR and the USFS.

BRUSH SITE SCHEDULE

The Brush Site opening date is weather dependent and will be posted on the town website and announced via the town electronic newsletter.
