The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has finalized the awards for the 2026 Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant applications. Each year, the increasing number of applicants intensifies competition for limited grant funds.

The Town of Washington is pleased to announce receipt of funding for the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for 2026, totaling $5,411.04.

Funded projects under this grant include:

  • Roadside chipping on Bass Lake, benefiting all 120 residents
  • Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) assessments for west side Bass Lake residents
  • Ongoing maintenance of the town brush site

Since the inception of our CWPP in 2017, the town has been awarded a cumulative total of $106,681.14 for wildfire risk reduction initiatives, at no cost to the town.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Laura Hayes, WDNR Wildland Urban Interface Specialist, for her continued support and guidance.

Additionally, brush site chipping is supported by our Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG), with funding secured for five years through 2027.
